Ashlee & Mathew’s wedding at Babalou was one of those relaxed, joy-filled days that just felt good from start to finish.

The day kicked off with the girls getting ready at a beautiful coastal Airbnb nearby — think breezy interiors, chilled tunes, and a whole lot of laughs. The girls were finishing up hair and makeup as the champagne was popped and the laughter started to ramp up. The whole house had a chilled, coastal vibe and everyone was just enjoying the moment — no stress, just good energy all round.

This was my signal to duck over to the boys, who were getting ready just down the road. Their energy? Slightly more chaotic (as it usually is with groomsmen), but still full of banter. Ties went on, personalised superhero/movie-themed cufflinks made an appearance, and we managed to sneak in some group shots before they headed off to the ceremony.

Back at the girls’ place, the energy shifted as Ashlee stepped into her stunning dress and slipped on her heels — suddenly it all started to feel real. The bridal party gathered around for some quiet, meaningful moments: a few hugs, deep breaths, last-minute lipstick checks, and that buzz of anticipation that kicks in just before it’s time to go. One of the most touching moments of the day came next — Ashlee’s first look with her dad. As she walked down the stairs, the emotion hit. His reaction said it all — proud and completely wrapped up in the moment. It was such a beautiful reminder of what these days are really about: connection, love, and all the little in-between moments that make it unforgettable.

The ceremony was set in an absolutely breathtaking spot — right on Hasting Point headland, with ocean views and, right on cue, a couple of whales cruising past offshore. (Yes, seriously.) The ceremony was heartfelt and warm, with just the right amount of laughs, and after they said their I dos, the couple made their way back down the aisle to hugs, cheers, and confetti.

We knocked out a big group shot and some family photos before guests made their way to cocktail hour. Meanwhile, the bridal party kicked back with a beachside picnic, and then I snuck Ashlee and Mathew away for a few quiet moments and some golden-hour beach portraits. They even got to sneak in a little first dance practice with the waves crashing in the background — honestly, magic.

Next stop was Cabarita Headland, where the bridal party popped more champagne and absolutely showered the happy couple in confetti. That winter sunset did not disappoint — the light was perfect, the mood was perfect, and the photos? Unreal.

Back at Babalou, the reception had a timeless coastal feel — relaxed but elegant. The couple made their entrance, kicked things off with a champagne tower, and then guests settled in for entrees, mingling, and some very heartfelt (and funny) speeches.

After mains, we rolled into cake cutting and the choreographed first dance, which was absolute perfection. Not long after, everyone joined them on the dance floor and didn’t look back — a proper celebration to end an incredible day.

Ashlee & Mathew, you nailed the brief: a relaxed, fun wedding with all the beautiful moments in between. What a day
