Kerri & Darren | A Rainy but Beautiful Pioneer Country Wedding in Tweed Heads
The weather was doing its best to keep everyone guessing for Kerri and Darren’s wedding day. Rain rolled through for most of it, but thankfully Pioneer Country has some beautiful wet weather options, and honestly, it all just added to the atmosphere of the day.
With a small group of close family and friends, everything felt really personal and relaxed from the beginning.
Our day started with the girls, and Kerri was completely organised by the time I arrived. Calm, ready to go, and clearly just excited for the day ahead. She helped her dad pin on his flower, which was such a nice little moment between the two of them. We grabbed some photos with him and bridesmaid Kitty before I left to catch up with Darren.
Over with the boys, Darren was getting the final touches sorted with a bit of help from his groomsman before we grabbed a few quick portraits and made our way towards the chapel.
Guests gathered inside while the rain rolled on outside, then came one of the best ceremony entrances I have seen in a while. Kerri had organised a surprise bagpipe player as a nod to her heritage, and it completely set the tone. Such a cool moment. Not long after, Kerri walked in with her dad beside her, and all eyes were on her, especially Darren’s.
The ceremony had a really nice balance of laughter and emotion. They included a knotting ceremony, with each ribbon holding its own special meaning, which made things feel even more personal. After their vows, Darren lifted Kerri’s veil before sealing things with a kiss.
Once the paperwork was signed, they headed back out, lead by the bagpiper, through what may have been the biggest confetti shower I have ever photographed. Absolute chaos in the best way.
The rain quickly pushed everyone back inside for hugs and congratulations before we rolled into a group photo and family shots.
Afterwards we made our way across to the barn, dodging puddles along the way and squeezing in a few quick bridal party photos before the couple joined cocktail hour with their guests.
Then somehow, right when we needed it, the weather cleared.
I stole Kerri and Darren away for some portraits up on the hill behind Pioneer Country, and suddenly we had blue sky, soft light, cows wandering over to say hello, and even a beautiful sunset. Considering how the weather looked earlier in the day, I genuinely did not think we would get outside for portraits at all, so it felt like a pretty lucky turnaround for these two.
Back at the barn, everything looked incredible thanks to the Pioneer Country team. One of my favourite little details were the honey jars sitting on the tables as wedding favours, made from the couple’s own bee hives. Such a good personal touch.
The bridal party entered to guests cheering and waving napkins in the air before heading straight into a champagne tower and cake cutting. Speeches followed alongside dinner, then came the shoe game which got plenty of laughs from everyone in the room.
Not long after, Kerri and Darren shared their first dance before the dancefloor properly kicked off. The night wrapped up with a sparkler exit and bouquet toss before the couple made their way out surrounded by family and friends.
Sure, there was plenty of rain, but honestly, it suited the day. Everything still came together exactly the way it was meant to for these two.
