Some weddings go exactly to plan. Others get a few unexpected twists along the way. Bec and Chris got plenty of rain on their wedding day, but if anything, it just highlighted what really mattered. No weather forecast was going to get in the way of these two marrying each other.
The day started with Bec getting ready, and we arrived just in time to catch the final touches of hair and makeup. She was definitely feeling a few nerves, but she was in great spirits and had by plenty of support from her mum.
Before heading to the ceremony, we spent some time in the garden downstairs capturing a few portraits and candid moments. One of the highlights was a first reveal with her parents. There were hugs all around and more than a few emotional smiles. The kind of moment that always reminds you what weddings are really about.
Once everyone was ready, we headed off to the ceremony. We made sure to leave enough time to grab a few relaxed photos of Chris before he took his place at the altar and waited for Bec’s arrival.
As guests settled in, the weather looked like it might hold off. Unfortunately, it had other ideas.
Just as Bec started walking down the aisle, a light drizzle began. By the time she reached Chris, it was absolutely bucketing down. To their credit, neither of them seemed remotely concerned. A couple of umbrellas appeared, everyone had a laugh, and the ceremony carried on.
It was a beautiful ceremony with plenty of personal touches. After exchanging vows and sealing things with a kiss, the rain finally eased off. They signed the paperwork before sharing a prayer, a reading, communion, and even a song performed by friends.
Once everything was official, they made their way back down the aisle through a shower of flower petals. Almost on cue, the rain returned and everyone quickly took shelter nearby.
Thankfully the showers eventually passed and guests gathered in the park for a big group photo. As Bec and Chris walked into position at the front, they were met with a huge cheer from their family and friends. We followed that up with family photos while everyone was together.
The original plan had been for guests to enjoy some barefoot bowls after the ceremony, but the weather had other ideas for that too. Luckily, Bec and Chris were more than happy to make the most of any break in the rain.
We found a gap in the showers and headed out onto the green for some fun photos before making our way to a nearby rainforest walk. The soft light and lush surroundings made for some beautiful portraits.
From there, we squeezed in one final stop at the beach. The weather finally gave us a little reward for our patience, and as the sun began to set, Bec and Chris took the opportunity to practise their first dance together. It was one of those quiet moments where everything slows down for a minute.
Back at Kingscliff Bowls Club, the newlyweds were welcomed into the reception with plenty of cheers before everyone settled in for dinner.
After everyone had eaten, I rounded up some group photos with their favourite people before the speeches got underway. There were plenty of laughs, a few emotional moments, and lots of stories that highlighted their love for each other.
The cake was cut, the formalities wrapped up, and then it was time for the first dance. All that practice paid off. They absolutely nailed it.
As soon as the dance finished, the rest of the guests joined them on the dance floor and the party really kicked into gear. After a day of dodging rain showers, everyone was ready to celebrate properly and they certainly did not hold back.
This wedding was a perfect reminder that it doesn’t matter what the weather throws at you. At the end of the day, Bec and Chris were married, surrounded by the people they love, and their happiness shone through every part of the day.
