Babalou | Tweed Coast Wedding

Some wedding days just seem to flow. Lyndal and Mitch’s was one of those days. Perfect spring weather, a relaxed and organised crew, plenty of laughs and a couple who were clearly very comfortable in each other’s company. It all came together pretty effortlessly.

The afternoon started with the girls getting ready. Spirits were high and the ladies were very organised, with hair and makeup wrapping up nicely before everyone shared a glass of champagne and it was time for Lyndal to get dressed. Once she was in her gown, Lyndal stepped out of the bedroom to see her dad for the first time. It was a beautiful moment, with a few tears all round.

We then took some portraits of Lyndal before heading off to catch up with the boys. She looked absolutely stunning and, as always, it was nice to have a few quiet minutes to capture some portraits before the day really got moving.

Over with the boys, Mitch and his dad, who was also his groomsman, were standing in the shade getting their flowers onto their jackets. With a little help from YouTube, a few laughs and some questionable floral engineering, they eventually got the job done and made their way to the altar.

Lyndal walked over to the park with her family as guests settled in for the ceremony. The setting was pretty hard to beat, with the ceremony taking place in the park right on the Kingscliff foreshore. As Lyndal made her way down the aisle, all eyes were on her, especially Mitch’s.

The ceremony had the perfect mix of giggles and heartfelt moments. Rings were exchanged, vows were made, the paperwork was signed and the two sealed it all with a kiss. Then it was time to make their way back down the aisle as Mr and Mrs, through a shower of confetti and straight into the arms of their family and friends.

There were plenty of congratulations, hugs, handshakes and well wishes waiting for them at the end of the aisle. Once things settled down, we gathered everyone together for a big group photo, followed by family photos and some relaxed bridal party shots.

From there, everyone headed downstairs at Babalou for cocktail hour, with plenty of time to mingle, catch up and enjoy a few drinks.

As the sun started to drop, I stole Lyndal and Mitch away for some portraits. The light was amazing, and we moved from the rainforest setting not far from the venue through to the beach for some of my favourite golden hour shots in a long time. The two of them made my job pretty easy. Their love for each other was obvious, they were completely relaxed together and with that sunset doing its thing, everything just fell into place.

Back at Babalou, it was time to head into the reception. The room had been beautifully styled by the Babalou team and the guests were more than ready for the couple’s arrival. Everyone was out of their seats, waving napkins and cheering as Lyndal and Mitch made their entrance.

Speeches followed, with the usual combination of big laughs and a few tears. There was dinner, plenty of mingling and drinks, before things moved into the next part of the evening.

First came the champagne tower, followed by the cake cut and a few words from the newlyweds.

Then came the first dance.

And this was no ordinary first dance. Lyndal and Mitch had put together a choreographed routine which went down a treat with the crowd. Once it finished, they opened up the dancefloor and everyone piled in. The band was absolutely belting out the tunes and the couple hit the dancefloor with plenty of enthusiasm. Their family and friends were right there with them and the party was well and truly underway.

Eventually my time came to head off. Just before I left, I spotted Mitch doing a handstand on the dancefloor. At that point I decided some party antics are probably best left without photographic evidence, so I said my goodbyes and headed home.

Such a fun couple and a great group of family and friends made this a spring wedding to remember.
