Heather and Jayden wanted a wedding that felt relaxed, fun, and more focused on celebrating with their people than getting caught up in too much tradition. Even with the weather doing its best to test the plans, that is exactly what the day turned into.
It had been raining heavily in the lead up, and the outdoor ceremony was definitely touch and go for a while there. Somehow though, the weather gods gave us a window of clear skies right when it mattered. The ground was muddy, shoes were sinking, and none of it bothered these two in the slightest.
My day started with the girls, and everyone was in great spirits when I arrived. Hair and makeup was wrapping up, drinks were being shared around, and there was a really easy energy to the whole house. Heather changed into her dress, then a big reveal to the girls before her mum helped put on the veil. We grabbed some portraits with everyone together, a few with Heather on her own, then I headed off to catch the boys before the ceremony.
The boys were tucked away inside the house trying to avoid the passing showers. The property actually belongs to some old friends of mine, and I had been a guest to their wedding there years ago, so it was pretty special being back again and seeing them. Once the rain eased a little, we headed outside for a few photos of the boys having beers on the steps before making their way up to the ceremony.
The weather was still threatening all around us. Heavy rain in the distance, muddy ground everywhere, but somehow clear sky right above. That was all we needed.
The girls arrived in four wheel drives, which honestly suited the day perfectly. The second Heather stepped out, her white dress was instantly muddy. To her credit, she completely embraced it and just laughed it off. No stress, no panic, just enjoying the day for what it was.
When she walked down the aisle, all eyes were on her, especially Jayden’s.
The ceremony had a really good mix of laughter and heartfelt moments. They sealed things with a kiss, signed the certificate, then made their way back down the aisle through a shower of confetti and straight into hugs from family and friends.
We knocked over a big group photo and family shots pretty quickly as the rain started looking serious again. Bridal party photos turned into a bit of a race against the weather, and not long after, the skies absolutely opened up. At that point it did not really matter anymore.
Everyone headed off to The Sleepy Barn while I stayed back with Heather and Jayden for a few quiet moments together at the house. It ended up being one of my favourite parts of the day. Just the two of them, taking it all in while the rain poured around us.
Once we made it to the reception, the bridal party entered to plenty of cheers from the guests and the energy carried on from there. They cut into a tiramisu instead of a traditional cake, which felt very fitting for the vibe of the day.
Speeches hit the perfect balance of funny and meaningful, then came the first dance before the dancefloor properly kicked off. It did not take long for the room to come alive. I even bumped into a few old school friends during the night, which made the whole day feel even more personal.
Heather and Jayden wanted a party that just happened to include a wedding, and that is exactly what they got. Plenty of special moments, zero pressure for things to feel overly formal, and a genuinely fun group of people who made the whole day a good time from start to finish.
Such a fun one to be part of.
